Ambassador Mykonos
Ultra iCementi, Ultra Iridium and Ultra Resine: three Ariostea collections of large slabs (Grandi Lastre) used in a prestigious renovation project in the Hotel Ambassador on Mykonos. After opening his first hotel in 1979, George P. Daktylides dreamed of setting up a chain of extra luxury hotels, and his idea took shape ten years later in the Ambassador, a five-star Relais Châteaux hotel in a prominent position above the beach of Platis Gialos.
His successful response to the challenge led to the establishment of Myconian Collection Hotels Resorts, including the Ambassador, the epitome of the Relais Châteaux “art de vivre”. Only minutes away from the fine sand of Platis Gialos, the Ambassador fits harmoniously into the slopes and terraces of the typical landscape of the Cyclades with its bold identity.
Its expressive power is underlined in the dialogue between the diversification of various spaces in the hotel (patio, pool, spa, boutique, garden) and the complex’s overall unity, in the skilful blend of different volumes and materials characteristic of contemporary architecture with elements borrowed directly from centuries-old local building traditions.
In the renovation project by Galal Mahmoud (GM Architects, 2015), the close relationship between the Ambassador Hotel and the island of Mykonos becomes an essential part of the architectural design, also because of the Lebanese architect’s strong links with the island where he has lived since he was a child.
Upon entering a room in the Ambassador, “the eye is drawn to the sea right away, with the classic combination of white and blue”.In this highly evocative colour scheme (sun, sky, beach, stone), a floor made of large Ultra Ariostea slabs with a Soft finish perfectly suits the cleanliness, expressiveness and the sober elegance of the hotel’s architecture.
Delicate hues of Iron and Silver tiles, from the Ultra iCementi series of cement-effect tiles (measuring 100×100 cm), include luminous Iridium Bianco on the floor of the hotel rooms (100×100-150×75-75×37.5 cm.); and velvety, embracing Silicio from the Ultra Resine collection (100×100 cm.) on the floor of the breakfast room and the restaurant.
An exclusive material such as high-tech porcelain from the Ultra Ariostea collection looks perfectly natural in an equally unique structure which seems to bring the Aegean sea, sun and sky right inside, in a constant flow of big, open spaces and inviting windows, corridors and rooms.
A dreamy, timeless atmosphere in which surfaces covered with big Ultra Ariostea slabs do away with distances and underline the sensations the guests are looking for: hospitality and the excitement of an unforgettable experience
